15 K-Dramas to look out for in 2021

K-Drama fans should buckle up and start getting excited because 2021 will be bringing many many great K-dramas for them. From adaptations to much-awaited second seasons, to brand new dramas, 2021, has a lot in store for us. Here are 15 K-Dramas that you should add to your watch-list for this year!

 

  1. Love Alarm (S2):

The much-awaited season 2 of ‘Love Alarm’ will be airing on Netflix sometime this year. ‘Love Alarm’ was initially supposed to be released in August 2020, but was pushed back due to the pandemic. Season one of ‘Love Alarm’, which came out in 2019, gained a lot of viewers, in which we see a unique concept of our love lives being digitalized. It shows an app that sends the user a notification when someone within a 10 feet distance admires them. The second season will show a love triangle between the three main leads.

‘She Would Never Know’ is based on a popular web novel called ‘Sunbae, Don’t Put on That Lipstick’. The Drama will show us a love story between a senior who dreams to start her own company and her junior who works with her as a marketer. We will see Ro-Woon back in a drama, after her last role as Haru in ‘Extraordinary You(2019)’

Cast- Jo Jung-suk, Yoo Yeon-seok, Kim Dae-myung, Jung Kyung-ho, Jeon Mi-do

After a hit first season on Netflix, ‘Hospital Playlist’ will be returning with another season possibly somewhere in mid-2021. The show became the ninth highest-rated K-Drama in television history. It is a light-hearted series which shows us the friendship between 5 doctors working in the same hospital.

Cast- Jung Hae-in, Kim Ji-soo, Kim Hye-yoon, Jang Seung-jo, Yoon Se-ah

Starring BlackPink’s Jisoo, this K-Drama is set in Seoul in 1987. It follows student Eun Young-Cho (Kim Ji-soo), who falls in love with another student I’m Soo-ho(Jung Hae-in) at a social gathering. They later meet again when Young-cho has to treat a wounded Soo-ho back to health when he finds himself covered in blood in a women’s hostel.

 

 

  1. Royal Secret agent:

Cast- Kim Myung-soo, Kwon Na-ra, Lee Tae-hwan, Lee Yi-Kyung

Genre- Comedy, Historical, Mystery

‘Royal Secret Agent’ is a historical drama set in the Joseon era, and revolves around, Sung Yi-Gyeom, who is a state examination topper working in the administrative and research department of the government office. The series is directed by Kim Jung-min and will be airing every Monday and Tuesday at 21:30(KST)

Beyond Evil’ is a mystery drama about two men who come together to solve a 20- year old serial murder case, when a similar serial murder takes place again. While searching for the identity of the murderer, they will have to question all suspects, even if they seem innocent; including themselves.

‘Vincenzo’ is a dark comedy about two lawyers; Park Joo-Hyung and Hong Cha-young. Joo-Hyung, who was adopted at the age of 8 and taken to Italy and had been working for the Mafia as a consigliere under the name Vincenzo Casano, comes back to South Korea. He meets Cha-young by chance and romance is sparked between the two lawyers.

‘Sisyphus: The Myth’ is a sci-fi mystery drama in which a genius engineer tries to find the real reason behind his brother’s death, and travels back in time with an elite warrior. The actress Park Shin-Hye recently starred in the ‘Alive’ in 2020, the movie which became one of the most-streamed movies on Netflix. This drama is directed by Jin Hyuk, who also directed the famous drama ‘Legend of the Blue Sea’.

 

 

  1. Dear M:

Cast- Park Hye-soo, Jung Jae-hyun, Roh Jeong-eui, Bae Hyun-sung

Based on the popular web series ‘Love Playlist’, ‘Dear M’ is centered around four college students who search for the mysterious ‘M’ in Soeyeon University, while also going through romance and friendships. This drama marks the acting debut of NCT’s singer and rapper Jung Jae-Hyun. Other K-Pop idols such as CLC’s Eun-bin and UP10TION’s Jin-hyuk will also be appearing as students in the drama.

‘River Where the Moon Rises’ is a historical drama based on the 2012 novel ‘Princess Pyeonggang’ that follows the love story of On Dal and Princess Pyeonggang. Princess Pyeonggang wishes to be the first female Taewang of Goguryeo. She accidentally meets On Dal, and then later pays him a visit and tells him that she wishes to live with him, and in return, she will teach him martial arts, and how to read and write.

 

 

  1. Devilish Judge:

Cast- Ji-sung, Park Jin-young, Park Gyu-young

Genre- Mystery, drama

‘Devilish Judge’ is a court drama about a judge, Yo-han, who tries to punish criminals by turning a court case into a reality TV show. GOT7’s Park Jin-young stars in the drama as a jury member who studied hard to become a judge and plays the role of an associate under Yo-han. The show gained a lot of popularity after the famous K-pop idol Jin-young was rumored to be in the main cast.

Bae Doona has been in many Netflix originals over the years, such as ‘Sense8’, ‘Stranger’, ‘Kingdom’, etc, and will be once again starring in this Netflix original drama.

Genre- Coming-of-age, zombie apocalypse

A zombie virus breaks out in a school and the students are trapped within the walls, with only survival on their minds. The series will be released sometime in 2021.
