Sarah Everard has been missing since March 3, 2021 and a Metropolitan police officer has been arrested for Sarah Everard’s disappearance in South London in a “serious and significant development”.
Sarah Everard’s disappearance has been the talk of the town lately and police officials are investigating the case with all their strengths. Confiscating the investigation of Sarah Everard to the next level, a Metropolitan Police Officer has been arrested for Ms. Everard’s disappearance in South London.
“The arrest this evening is a serious and significant development”, said the Assistant Commissioner Nick Ephgrave. “We will continue to work with all speed on this investigation but the fact that the arrested man is a serving Metropolitan Police Officer is both shocking and deeply concerning”, he added.
Who is Sarah Everard?
Sarah Everard is a 33-year-old marketing executive, who was last seen in Clapham Junction/ Clapham Common/ Brixton Area, after leaving a friend’s house at about 9 p.m. on 3 March. She has been described as “beautiful, thoughtful and incredibly kind”.
Ms Everard is 5 foot 4 inches, blonde hair and a slim build woman. She was wearing a green raincoat, dark blue trousers with a white diamond pattern and a green “ON” running shoes. Ms. Everard is originally from York and attended Durham University. She is thought to have been wearing green earphones and a white beanie hat.
Sarah is believed to have walked through Clapham Common towards her home – a journey that should have taken her about 50 minutes. Ms. Everard’s family is extremely concerned for her disappearance and has said it is out of character for her to disappear.
How is the police helping in the investigation?
The Met police said in a statement that officers had arrested a man at an address in Kent. “He has been taken into custody at a London police station where he remains,” the statement said. A woman was arrested at the same location on suspicion of assisting an offender and also taken into custody.
He also said that the officer “was not on duty at the time” when Ms Everard went missing and would only confirm he had been arrested “in connection” with her disappearance. “We are searching as hard as we can to find Sarah, so we really hope that is the case,” said the Assistant Commissioner Nick Ephgrave when asked by the reporters if Sarah is still alive.
He further added, “As a father myself of four young women I can only imagine the anguish that Sarah’s family are feeling at this very very difficult time.”
The arrest comes after officers searching for Ms Everard put up a cordon outside a block of flats near to where she was last seen on Poynders Road and sniffer dogs have been used to search the nearby Oaklands Estate and gardens. The officers were also seen searching the drains where Sarah was last seen, along the streets. The officers had visited 750 homes in the area as part of the investigation and the investigation force had received more than 120 phone calls from the public till now.
Sarah’s friends and relatives took to their social media handles and issued appeals to help find Sarah in a hope that social media has very much power in itself.
English Actress Sophie Turner, who made her debut as Sansa Stark on the HBO epic fantasy television series Game of Thrones, also showed her concern towards Sarah’s case and took to her Instagram story to upload about the same.
