Popular South Korean male group, GOT7, have decided to not renew their contract with the agency they were with, JYP Entertainment. It was confirmed on 10th January 2021, that the band will be performing as a group for the last time at the Golden Disk Awards. The members, JB, Jackson, Mark, Jinyoung, Bambam, Youngjae, Yugyeum, performed their songs, ‘Not by the moon’, and ‘Breath’, for the last time as a group under JYP Entertainment, and their fans were an emotional mess.

“The GOT7 members are very close. They agreed on staying together, but they disagreed on the choice of their agency. After multiple discussions with the company, they decided to part ways,” according to Dispatch. “The members care a lot about GOT7. Though they will each promote separately, they agreed to make time when GOT7 reunites.”
Despite leaving their agency, they have promised their fans that this is not an end to them as a group and that they will be working together in the future as well. Their oldest member, Mark Twan took to Twitter to first announce their separation, but assured the fans that ‘nothing is coming to an end, just the beginning.’
“The past 7 years have been the best years of my life. Nothing is coming to an end, just the beginning. The seven of us are going to continue to bring you guys the best version of us till the end. #GOT7FOREVER,” he wrote on Twitter.

Where will they go next
Ever since the news of them not renewing their contract with JYPE reached the public, fans of GOT7; also known as ‘Ahgases’, have been wondering what they will do next.
All we know is that Yugyeom has held his final meetings with AOMG, and Jinyoung, who has been in K-Drama’s before, has signed with the actor agency BH Entertainment. JB is reportedly planning to find a place to start his career as a solo artist.
Jackson Wang already has his own label, ‘Team Wang’, and will possibly continue his activities there.
Youngjae was reportedly scouted by Sublime Artist Agency and Mark will return to the United States to possibly work on his solo music and start his own YouTube channel.
How fans reacted
Although the fans were terribly emotional and sad about having their favorite boy band being separated, they were still proud of them, and fully supported their decision, as JYPE has been known to not treat the boy band properly. JYP Entertainment was never able to give them the platform that they deserved and the fans are happy that their idols will be free from a toxic environment, while also continuing to do what they love. They also took solace in the fact that GOT7 will always remain close and will work together in the future as well, as the boys love each other very much.
Their fans also trended #GOT7 and #GOT7FOREVER on Twitter, with 4.26M and 3M tweets.

GOT7 debuted in January 2014 with the release of their first EP Got It?, which peaked at number two on the Gaon Album Chart and number one on Billboard’s World Albums Chart. They’ve won several awards since then, and also won Best Album at the 35th Golden Disk Awards.
