HBO MAX is an American streaming platform from HOME BOX OFFICE and parent company AT&T’s Warner Media. It was launched in May 2020.

HBO MAX: Will it replace the existing platforms?
HBO MAX has recently released new originals and is all set to replace HBO GO and HBO NOW, the old streaming services of HBO.
HBO GO has become defunct, and HBO NOW the default HBO app on a few selected platforms.
Will HBO MAX be launched in India?
Indian audiences have always loved HBO’s and WB’s content and surely will in the future, and for them to India could be a great target market.
A statement by Gerhard Zeiler, head of Warner Media International hinted at an India release but revealed no confirmation.
“If you want to be a strong global player, you have to be strong in Asia-Pacific. In India, we don’t have the scale that we want and where we have to be. In order to get there, the workhorse will be HBO Max.”
Why is Indian release unlikely?
We can make out Indian launch is unlikely as Warner Media is in a distribution agreement with Disney+ Hotstar. As the Indian market is already loaded with strong local streaming players, HBO prefers making agreements that will allow local platforms to distribute their content, like the one they have with Disney+ Hotstar. Since they already are fine with this tie-up, entering the Indian market would either be impractical or even contravening their distribution agreement.
The only possible way to get HBO MAX’s originals on Indian screens is that other existing platforms make them available under their agreement.
