After Rihanna and Greta Thunberg, a South African comedian shared a video on YouTube under ‘If you don’t know, now you know’ segment explaining the ongoing farmers’ protest in India.
In his short 8 minutes video, the host of the Daily Show, Trevor Noah, explains the cause of the ongoing farmers’ protest and the agitation of farmers against the three agricultural laws passed by the government last year.
Watch out the video shared by Trevor Noah here:
In this 8 minutes clip, Noah Trevor is explaining the reason for the ongoing farmers’ protest in India and is in support with the farmers. He mentioned at the starting of his segment, “We’re talking about India because, in a year of global protests, they’re [India] in the midst of the biggest one anywhere”.
He further added, “The government tried to change the decades-old agriculture laws and that’s when the manure hit the fan”. The video also explains about the farmers’ fear that they will lose MSP with the push for privatisation.
“That sounds like a rough situation for the farmers. And, if the last year has told us anything, it is that we cannot take farmers for granted. Nowhere in the world. We need farmers,” he further added.
In his video, blocked borders, jammed highways, the Red Fort incident on January 26, the violence, the lathicharge etc, have been highlighted by the comedian.
Standing in support with the farmers, Noah further commented that, “Farmers are the same people who wait 5 months to grow an eggplant. An eggplant! I am not even patient enough to find it in the emoji”. He praises the ‘determination’ of the farmers as one of the protesting farmers in an interview says that they will wait for four years and even more till their demands are met.
He also mentioned how the people burned the picture of Greta Thunberg on the streets of the National Capital.

The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement following tweets by the International celebrities that read, “Before rushing to comment on such matters, we would urge that the facts be ascertained, and a proper understanding of the issues at hand be undertaken. The temptation of sensationalist social media hashtags and comments, especially when resorted to by celebrities and others, is neither accurate nor responsible.”
We still don’t know what will happen next as the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, had strictly refused to renounce the three agricultural laws passed last year in September. On the other hand, the agitating farmers have also mentioned sticking to the protests going on in India, that they will wait for four years and even more till their demands are met.
