Ella Emhoff, the stepdaughter of Vice-President Kamala Harris, made her surprise catwalk debut at the NY Fashion Week on Thursday after becoming a fashion hit during January’s presidential inauguration.

Ella Emhoff walks the runway during a socially distanced Proenza Schouler show after signing with IMG Models.

Emhoff, 21, modeled several pieces for Proenza Schouler’s Fall 2021 line in a socially-distanced show that launched online as the design duo’s latest contribution to NYFW’s semi-annual series.

The daughter of Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff and ex-wide Kerstin Emhoff signed with IMG Models a week after she appeared at the swearing-in of President Biden and Vice President Harris wearing a bold Miu Miu coat and her now-signature layered curls and wire-rim glasses.

Earlier this week, Ella, a student at New York City’s Parsons School of Design, attended an NYFW panel discussion with Proenza Schoulder designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez.

“She represents the story we wanted to tell with the collection. It’s the beginning of a whole new chapter in American history, in the kind of clothes we’re wearing and are attracted to. She’s the breath of fresh air,” Hernandez said during a preview, according to women’s wear daily.

He admitted not knowing anything about Emhoff until her inauguration looks enthralled fashion lovers on Jan. 20.

“She’s new-gen,” McCollough added. “She’s very much someone we’d hang out with.” And Emhoff wasn’t the only prominent progeny to grace Proenza Schouler’s latest show.

Meadow Walker, the daughter of late “Fast & Furious” star Paul Walker, opened the moody movie that took the place of a live catwalk.

Walker, 22, previously said on Instagram that she was “unbelievably grateful” to Proenza Schouler for “trusting” her to model the line’s pre-fall designs.

“I’ll always remember the moment at our fitting when Lazaro told me I would be opening the show. I am so honored and wish I could give you the biggest hugs,” she wrote in a follow-up post on Thursday.

Ella Emhoff talks about her experience

“I definitely lost a little sleep the night before,” Emhoff admitted during a conversation with the label’s designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. “I mean, I’m walking for the first time, I’m in a professional environment for the first time. It was a very epic first experience with the fashion world.”

In the digital video, she walks around New York’s Parrish Art Museum in three different fashion looks.

Ella Emhoff’s “Look” at the NY Fashion Week

The first saw her matching her now trademark wire-rimmed glasses with slashed grey trousers and jacket, a black pipe bag, and cream color shearling slippers. The second was a yellow tie-dye swirled turtleneck top and black trousers under a black leather trench coat. The third was a black wool blazer with matching trousers. All were very different looks from her bedazzled Miu Miu coat, which went viral during the inauguration.

“For a long time when I was younger I wanted to be a designer,” she said according to CNN, “then I took it a little more seriously, I started taking courses at Central Saint Martins over two summers … It definitely exposed me to the intensity of design school.”

On her Instagram page, Emhoff is holding a raffle to win some pink striped trousers she has knitted, with proceeds going to two charities that provide outreach for black transgender women, for the World and the Okra project.

“I want to see guys, girls, people, everyone wearing striped colourful pants or my dresses,” she said as part of New York Fashion Week: The Talks. “I think that’d be great.”
