 Kim Kardashian files for divorce from Kanye West: US reality TV star Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce from rapper husband Kanye West after six years of marriage, reportedly citing “irreconcilable differences.” Kim and Kanye got married in a lavish ceremony in 2014. The mega-celebrity couple’s divorce proceedings come just weeks after US media reported the pair were living separately and going through counseling dealing with “regular relationship issues.”

How it all started? – Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s love story

The couple met in the early 2000s, but it would be years before they became romantically involved.
West interviewed his wife for Vogue Arabia and asked her about the first time they met. “This was before you released your first album and you were known as a music producer.
I was really shy. You thought I was a singer Brandy’s assistant, which I wasn’t,” Kardashian West recalled. “Ever since you said that it’s everywhere like ‘Kim is Brandy’s assistant.’ I was her friend and stylist. I thought you were attractive, nice, very charming, really funny, powerful – I was in awe of you, but I was really shy, quiet, and a little nervous, to be honest.”
Both had high-profile relationships before they went public with their love in 2012. West famously proposed to Kardashian by renting out a sports stadium and hiring an orchestra, as her family watched from nearby – all of which was documented and shared on the family’s popular E! reality series “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.”
The couple supported each other through tough times, including Kardashian West being robbed at gunpoint in Paris in 2016 during a home invasion. In 2018, West tweeted his admiration for his wife.
“Gratitude and happiness best describe what my wife means to me,” he wrote. “I’m deeply grateful and purely happy.”
Kardashian West, for her part, has also often spoken out in defense of her husband, who has been open about his struggles with bipolar disorder and stirred controversy with his provocative tweets and political views.
Last summer, Kardashian West sought understanding from the public in a social media post.
“I understand Kanye is subject to criticism because he is a public figure and his actions at times can cause strong opinions and emotions,” she wrote in a statement shared on social media.
“He is a brilliant but complicated person who on top of the pressures of being an artist and a black man, experienced the painful loss of his mother and has to deal with the pressure and isolation that is heightened by his bi-polar disorder. Those who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words sometimes do not align with his intentions.”
Despite them being standing for each other always, things did not work out between the two and they ended up being separated.

Kim Kardashian asks for a “joint custody” of the kids

The news broke on Friday, it said the separation was “as amicable as a divorce can be.”
Kardashian, 40, is asking for joint custody of the couple’s four children, it added, with her lawyer Laura Wasser reportedly handing in the divorce papers on Friday. It also cites a prenuptial agreement regarding their assets.

Kardashian’s publicist confirmed the divorce filing but did not provide further details.
The pair, who began dating in 2012 and married in a lavish ceremony in Italy two years later, rapidly became one of the world’s most instantly recognizable couples.

Problems in Kim and Kanye’s married life

Their union has been dogged for months by reports in the gossip press that their marriage was on the rocks as West has battled with mental health issues and launched an improbable and controversial foray into US politics. West, 43, has opened up about his struggles with bipolar disorder.

In July last year, the mercurial entertainment mogul launched a bid for the US presidency with a rambling speech during which he revealed he had wanted to abort his daughter, and broke down in tears.

He also posted a series of tweets, later deleted, that accused his wife and mother-in-law of trying to lock him up and suggested he was seeking a divorce. Kardashian called on the media and public to show “compassion and empathy” following her husband’s erratic behavior.

“Those that understand mental illness or even compulsive behavior know that the family is powerless unless the member is a minor,” Kardashian said in her lengthy Instagram post in July.

The couple has four children: seven-year-old daughter North, son Saint, five, daughter Chicago, three, and 21-month-old son Psalm. Aside from family visits, West has been living at his sprawling ranch in Wyoming in recent months, while Kardashian and the children stayed in California.

This is Kim Kardashian’s third divorce and Kanye West’s first one

It would be the first divorce for West and the third for Kardashian, who came to fame with the US reality TV series “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” which followed the lives of her family members in Los Angeles.

Chicago-raised rapper and record producer West has won 21 Grammys. He burst onto the rap scene on his production chops, before delivering a string of critically acclaimed studio albums, selling over 20 million copies.

He has made a very public turn to Christian evangelism in recent years, finally releasing his long-awaited gospel album. The pair began dating in 2012 while Kardashian was going through divorce proceedings with second husband Kris Humphries.

First child North was born in June 2013, and the couple married the following year at a 16th-century fortress in Florence, Italy after a pre-wedding celebration held at Versailles Palace in France.
