BLACKPINK’s Rosé has returned with an emotional new music video! On April 5 at midnight KST, Rosé released her music video for “GONE,” the B-side from her first solo single album “R.” In contrast to the bold, confident energy of her title track “On The Ground,” “GONE” showcases Rosé’s sentimental side as she sings of a lost love that caused her pain.
The music video starts with her lying on the bathroom floor, and candles are lit around her. The scene cuts to the good times when she is seen smiling and laughing while enjoying conversation with someone on the phone. The lyrics reflect the sentiment, “Another story that’s sad and true / I can feel the pain, can you? / You had to be the one to let me down / To colour me blue / Hate to see you with someone new / I’ll put a curse on her and you / Ain’t no looking back, now you’re dead and gone / My love is gone too.”
‘On The Ground’ was produced by Teddy and 24. It is in collaboration with Jorgen Odegard, Ojivolta, and Jon Bellion as producers. Meanwhile, ‘Gone’ has been produced by Brian Lee & 24 and has been penned by Brian Lee, J. Lauryn, TEDDY, Rosé.
YG Entertainment shared that Rosé’s title track On The Ground debuted at No. 8 on Spotify’s daily Global Top 50 chart for March 12 (local time) with 3,262,615 streams in the first 24 hours since its release. Justin Bieber’s Hold On and Drake’s What Next followed up on number 9 and 10 spots respectively. Not just that, Gone, the b-side song about love and relationships, reached No. 11 with 2,945,783 streams. On The Ground now has the most streams achieved in 24 hours by a song officially released by a Korean solo artist on Spotify.

Rose’s song On the Ground has topped several music charts in South Korea as well. Her R album has sold 400k copies on the fourth day of advanced sales. The number is considered to be the highest figure ever for a Korean female artist as reported on the KBS world radio portal. Her song On the Ground is released in all-English lyrics.
BLACKPINK’s golden-voiced vocalist finally released her much-awaited solo debut album, R, with its lead title track On The Ground. The all English song depicts a message of self-reflection and self-love. The lyrics describe a star who has devoted her life to be at the top of her game, but eventually, she realizes that a person’s worth is always determined by one’s inner character and how one should accept themselves for who one is. The track has been very well-loved and received by fans across the world, so much so that it racked an impressive 3,262,615 streams in the first 24 hours since its release.
‘R’ marks Rosé’s first-ever solo release since making her debut in BLACKPINK in 2016. The two-track project also includes the song ‘Gone’, which she debuted live during BLACKPINK’s online concert The Show in January. Both songs are sung in English.
At a press conference on March 12, Rosé said that she had a lot of input while making her debut solo project, from the cover art to songwriting. “Since our fans have waited for it for such a long time, I wanted it to be satisfying,” she said, per Korea Herald. “I attended a lot of meetings to convey my opinions for the album, from its cover design to my first song writing.”
She added that she reminisced on her pre-debut days and passion for music while making the record. “I reflected on myself and realised how much I love music, get comforted and have grown with it. I wrote the songs in English as I thought it was the most fitting language for them. I hope they can comfort listeners as well.” Rosé also revealed that she had originally recorded ‘Gone’ for the first time two years ago. Meanwhile, ‘On The Ground’ was only recorded recently.
