Meghan Markle, Prince Harry
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have revealed that they are about to become a family of four!

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced on Sunday that they are expecting their second child together, and the baby will be the younger sibling to the couple’s first son, Archie Harrison, who will turn two-years-old on May 6.

“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child,”  a spokesperson for the couple shared in a statement on Sunday, Feb. 14.

The photographer of the announcement photo, Misan Harriman, a longtime friend of the couple, congratulated the couple on Twitter, and reflected on being able to capture the moment. “Meg, I was there at your wedding to witness this love story begin, and my friend, I am honored to capture it grow,” he wrote. “Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex on this joyous news!”

The couple’s second child to the Sussex clan will be the fifth grandchild of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana and the 10th great-grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II.

In a conversation with Dr. Jane Goodall a while back, Harry had revealed exactly how many kids he wanted to have with Meghan. When the topic of climate change came up, Dr. Goodall said that it must feel terrifying for Harry to witness because he just had Archie.

“I know,” Harry said. “It does make it different. I think, weirdly because of the people that I’ve met and the places I’ve been fortunate enough to go, I’ve always had a connection and a love for nature. I view it differently now, without question. But I’ve always wanted to try and ensure that, even before having a child and hoping to have children…”

“Two, maximum!” Harry said, about the number of children he wants.

Only a few months ago, Meghan had disclosed she had suffered a miscarriage in July of last year.

She recalled that she felt a sharp pain in her stomach as she changed son Archie Harrison’s diaper, writing, “I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second.”

Meghan wrote about how many women experience a pregnancy loss at some point in their life, but only few discuss the grief it brings. She reflected, “The conversation remains taboo, riddled with (unwarranted) shame, and perpetuating a cycle of solitary mourning.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry got married almost three years ago, on May 19, 2018, and welcomed their first child Archie a year later on May 6.
