Miley Cyrus Shows Her Support To The #FreeBritney Movement: “Britney Should Have The Freedom To Live The Life That’s Most Authentic To Her”

Miley Cyrus is one of the various celebrities who has spoken up about her support towards the #FreeBritney movement. Since April 2019, Britney Spears’ fans have been flooding social media with the hashtag #FreeBritney to help free the Princess of Pop from her conservatorship.

Miley Cyrus Speaks up about Britney Spears

Miley Cyrus has always been a fan of Britney, and in an interview last year in August with iHeartRadio Canada, she talked about the struggles revolving around the “Toxic” singer.

“Britney, like anyone else, should have the freedom to live the life that’s most authentic to her,” Miley Cyrus said to her “SMS (Bangerz)” collaborator in the interview.

This was not the only time she has shown her support towards Spears.

During Cyrus’s high-energy performance of “Party in the USA” during the NFL’s TikTok Tailgate Super Bowl pregame livestream, the singer made sure to give Spears a shout-out. After singing her famous line, “And a Britney song was on,” the singer paused to exclaim, “We love Britney!” before heading into the song’s chorus. This performance took place right around the time the controversy around Britney was going on.

The Conservatorship and Legal battle

‘Framing Britney Spears’ focuses primarily on Britney’s conservatorship and the #FreeBritney movement, starting from her childhood to her court battles today.

Back in January 2008, Spears had to be hospitalised after what appeared to be a drug-related breakdown. After an emergency court hearing, custody of her two sons was given to their father Kevin Federline, and she was placed under a legal “conservatorship” controlled by her father, Jamie Spears.

However, even after all these years, the pop star who has made a name for herself all over the world and has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, still happens to have no control over her personal finances and the conservatorship remains.

The social movement, #FreeBritney completely took over social media ever since the release of her documentary in 2020, and is still going strong. In 2008, the pop star had admitted to her fans and followers that she wanted her conservatorship to end.

Other celebrities who have supported Britney Spears

Along with Cyrus, other celebrities such as Paris Hilton, John Oliver, Will.i.am, Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Jon Bon Jovi, Chloe Grace Moretz, John Mayer, Pete Davidson and many more, have spoken up in support of #FreeBritney.
