The most anticipated interview of Prince Harry and Megan Markle finally got aired, and it truly didn’t hold anything back.

The Interview: Megan Markle and Oprah Winfrey

The interview started off with just Megan Markle and Oprah Winfrey discussing about the royal family.  Markle opened up about her struggle with suicidal thoughts, which was due to intrusions of British tabloids and lack of support from “the firm”.

The Royal family had “concerns and conversations about how dark [son Archie’s] skin was going to be when he was born”.

Markle talked about how the royal family was worried about what Archie’s skin colour would be like.

“I started to understand what our continued reality was going to look like,” Meghan said of her first pregnancy. “I mean, they would go on the record and negate the most ridiculous story for anyone, I’m talking about things that are super artificial and inconsequential.”

“They were saying they didn’t want him to be a prince or princess, which would be different from protocol, and that he wasn’t going to receive security,” Markle said. “This went on for the last few months of our pregnancy where I was going, hold on for a second.”

“They said [he’s not going to get security], because he’s not going to be a prince. Okay, well, he needs to be safe so we’re not saying don’t make him a prince or princess, but if you’re saying the title is what’s going to affect that protection, we haven’t created this monster machine around us in terms of clickbait and tabloid fodder you’ve allowed that to happen which means our son needs to be safe.” Meghan said no good explanation was given: “I heard a lot of it through Harry and a lot of it through conversations with family members.”

“All around this same time we had in tandem the conversation of he won’t be given security, he’s not going to be given a title, and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”, she admitted.

Prince Harry that the “firm” cut them off financially and that he had managed to go on with the money that his mother, Princess Diana had left him. “Without that we wouldn’t have been able to do this.”, Harry said, referring to the money left to him by is mother.

Prince Harry opened up about being worried of having the same fate as his mother, of “history repeating itself”.

The couple also revealed that they their first son Archie is going to have a baby sister. “It’s a girl,” Prince Harry said, revealing the gender of his second child, who is due in two months.

When Winfrey asked about his initial reaction to the gender, Prince Harry said, “Amazing. Just grateful. To have any child, any one or two, would be amazing. But to have a boy and then a girl, what more could you ask for? Now we’ve got our family, the four of us and our two dogs. It’s great.”

Harry and Meghan also revealed that they actually got married three days before their widely viewed royal wedding. “You know, three days before our wedding, we got married,” Markle told Oprah. “No one knows that. But we called the archbishop, and we just said, ‘Look, this spectacle is for the world, but we want our union between us.'” “The vows that we have framed in our room are just the two of us in our backyard with the archbishop of Canterbury,” she explained, as Harry added: “Just the three of us.”
