The 64-year-old father of rapper Nicki Minaj has died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver near New York, the police said on Sunday.
Nicki’s father, Robert Maraj was walking on a road in Mineola, Long Island at 6:15 pm (2315 GMT) on Friday when he was hit, Nassau County Police Department said in a statement. The driver of the car left the scene of the accident, and Maraj was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Saturday.
Maraj was walking on the road when the car struck him, and it reportedly kept running and fled the scene. The car fled the scene too soon “without a meaningful description from witnesses,” said the cops.
Police know that the car was headed toward the north and the accident took place at the intersection of Roslyn Road and Raff Avenue.
The Nassau County Police Department is still investigating the case and has urged witnesses to approach with more concrete evidence about the fatal accident.
The news of the accident was first shared by Maraj’s sister, Suzie on social media.
