Prior to its Indian premiere, Ryan shot a video and confused his Indian fans by saying his movie was inspired by Bollywood. In a YouTube video, Ryan describes the video to his audience. He says, “In my movie Free Guy there’s a guy named Guy”who is quite Romeo, a girl “Molotov” who is out of his league.”

He then introduced Taika Waititi as a baddie. He also talked about buildings collapsing into the background with several figures dancing randomly in the middle of the road. All of this usually happens in a Bollywood movie. Sounds familiar, right?
He concluded the video by saying, “If you’re wondering if Hollywood is just mimicking Bollywood… well, the answer is yes. We have no shame, we have no shame at all.”
Even in 2019, when Ryan spoke to the Hindustan Times, said, he is a fan of Indian culture and Indian cinema. Ryan said, “Oh my God. I love Indian culture and movies. I think there is no greater contribution to the cinema than from India. When I was a kid I watched some (movies) from India. I love visiting India and meeting my fans. ”

Ryan also spoke frequently with Bollywood actors. He once chatted on Twitter with Ranveer Singh when he called him the Indian version of Deadpool. He wrote, “Astonishing how effectively I’ve managed to out-crass my Canadian counterpart @VancityReynolds. Never realised how fulfilling & rewarding foul Hindi language can be!”
To this, Ryan retweeted and wrote, “Well if I tried to curse in Hindi, pretty sure there would be an international incident.”
