Sima Taparia built her practice and reputation from the scratch and expanded her business worldwide and also has her matchmaking service
Married at the age of 19 to Anup Taparia, who belonged to a wealthy industrial family. As both families are well-connected, she began setting high-profile Indian couples up for marriage as a hobby, until she became so good at it that people suggested she do it professionally. When Taparia originally started matchmaking, she initially kept it in the Mumbai area. But as social media and dating apps made the importance of location almost obsolete, she now helps any client find their match, wherever they live.
Sima also runs a matchmaking service called “Suitable Rishta” and they do everything from finding people to matching horoscopes, biodatas, and hobbies. What began as a service solely for Marwadi households has now grown across countries – from the USA to Hong Kong, UK, Thailand, and Australia. The company finds matches for Indians across the globe and helps desi families find their kids, someone, they can tie the knot with.
Sima gives Indian girls a say in who she sets them up with
Over the years, women’s rights in India have steadily increased. When setting up couples, Taparia makes sure to take the woman’s opinion into account. “Educated girls do have a say nowadays,” she writes on Suitable Rishta. “Her city preference, grooming of boy, and freedom is much respected.”

Sima’s job includes assessing the lifestyle the families live, their documentation, education, and jobs before she makes them meet a match. Keeping in mind the average price of matchmaking services in India, her services cost somewhere between Rs 1.5 Lakh to Rs 4 Lakhs – a commission that is received from both sides of the ‘Rishta’.
“I only work with high-profile clients,” she said in an interview.
“In India when I meet clients they usually have a working wedding budget in mind. So based on that golden number, I quote the price that I charge as a lump sum.”
The real villain of #IndianMatchmaking is Sima Taparia. She is actively feeding and glamourising a system of monstrous behaviours. The woman chages thousands of dollars for her fees alone, and who knows how much more for the astrology-plagued barnacles she offers her clients
