Snowdrop has been the talk of the town for quite a while now, after the show concluded last week with the final episodes, fans are eager to know whether the show was based on true events. The show revolves around the lives of Eun Young Ro, a graduate student, and Lim Soo Ho, a North Korean Spy. The show focuses on the political aspects of the tension between South and North Korea.
WHAT IS SNOWDROP ABOUT?
Originally titled ‘Seolganghwa,’ ‘Snowdrop’ is a South Korean series that sheds light on an unusual love story. Organized just before the 1987 presidential election, the show revolves around university student Eun Yeong-ro and spy Lim Soo-ho. Amid the big protests, Lim Soo-ho one finds himself covered in blood in her bedroom. So, Yeong-ro hides Soo-ho from the authorities and the nurses come back to life. The two are slowly falling in love.
IS SNOWDROP BASED ON A TRUE STORY?
This K-Drama is based in part on a true story. But this is only true in the context of the established political climate. Clearly, the idea of the story was inspired by the memory of a man who escaped from a political prison in 2008. The experience of living on campus is borrowed from what happened to this university student in the 80s.
WHERE WAS SNOWDROP FILMED?
‘Snowdrop’ was filmed and recorded in various provinces of South Korea, namely Gangwon, North Gyeongsang, South Gyeongsang, and South Chungcheong. It is interesting how these different places stand in the 1980s Seoul in this K-Drama. The production of the first season was reportedly underway in November 2020, and despite some setbacks, the team completed the production by the end of July 2021.
