The Family Man 2 trailer has angered Tamil audiences
The second season features Telugu actress Samantha Akkineni as the main villain. Due to this, the South Indian fans were waiting for the series, but as the trailer went out on social media, the controversy started taking shape, and with The Family Man season 2; Samantha Shame On You, Family Man 2 Against Tamils , and LTTE started trending on Twitter. These hashtags suggest that The Family Man 2 has angered Tamil audiences. While many users demanded an apology from directors Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK (Raj & DK), several users threatened to boycott Amazon Prime Video.
Some users have threatened Samatha to be ‘banned in the Tamil industry’
In fact, some users feel that the Tamil community has been shown to be militant through Samantha’s character Raji. The trailer shows Raji fighting for a separate state for the Tamils, which is very similar to the LTTE movement. This has annoyed the users on social media. One user wrote that I am surprised to see Samantha playing this role. Some users have questioned the connection between LTTE and ISI. Also, some have threatened Samatha to be banned in the Tamil industry.
The series was scheduled to release on 12 February. However, after the controversy and police case of Saif Ali Khan’s web series Tandav, released in January, Amazon Prime officials became very cautious and took time to ensure that the Family Man 2 had any potentially objectionable facts. It should be removed in advance so that disputes can be avoided later.
According to media reports, season 2 has been given a clean chit by Amazon Prime’s team without significant cuts. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, season 2 has been cut a bit, but no major cuts have been made. The platform’s team closely scrutinized the entire footage of the second season to avoid any political commentary, which caused The Family Man 2 to face controversy. Now, it seems that they could not anticipate the Tamil community’s displeasure.
However, many celebrities have responded positively to the series trailer and liked it. The Family Man 2 stars Sharib Hashmi, Priyamani, Shreya Dhanvantari, Sunny Hinduja, Shahab Ali, Vedanta Sinha, and Mahek Thakur in the lead roles alongside Manoj Bajpayee. Manoj plays Srikanth Tiwari, who is a senior analyst at TASC, an intelligence agency. The story of the first season was shown in Mumbai, Delhi and Kashmir, while the second season is set predominantly in Chennai.
