Actress and pop singer, Selena Gomez, blessed us with a new Spanish single called ‘De Una Vez’ on 15th January 2021. A music video of the same was also released, where she is seen sporting a beautiful pink floral dress with a light-up pendant, making her way through the house as she passes through colorful memories.
“This is the beginning of something I’ve wanted to explore for so long,” Gomez wrote on Twitter following the song’s release. “I hope you love it as much as I do.”

In a statement, Gomez described ‘De Una Vez” as “such a beautiful love anthem,” adding, “I am incredibly proud of my Latin background. It felt empowering to sing in Spanish again.” The song’s title roughly translates to “at once,”, and talks about healing.
The song reflects Selena’s journey of how she worked on her mental health, overcame her past heartache, and started to love and become confident in herself.
In Spanish, Selena sings, “It doesn’t hurt like before / The wounds have healed / I’m stronger alone / I have no regrets about the past / Time with you cut my wings / I’m cured of you.“
Selena Gomez: ‘This is something I’ve wanted to do for 10 years’
Gomez spoke to Zane Lowe on Apple Music about the Spanish single. “This has been something I’ve wanted to do for 10 years, working on a Spanish project, because I’m so, so proud of my heritage, and just genuinely felt like I wanted this to happen,” she said. “And it happened, and I feel like it’s the perfect timing. Just with all the division in the world, there’s something about Latin music that globally just makes people feel things, you know?”
“You know what’s funny, is I actually think I sing better in Spanish,” she continued. “That was something I discovered. It was a lot of work, and look, you cannot mispronounce anything. It is something that needed to be precise, and needed to be respected by the audience I’m going to release this for. Of course, I want everyone to enjoy the music, but I am targeting my fan base. I’m targeting my heritage, and I couldn’t be more excited.”
Gomez also retweeted her 2011 tweet where she teased a Spanish record adding in: “I think it will be worth the wait.” As she said, she has been working on this album for a decade and this means a lot to her.

In 2020, Selena released her album called ‘Rare’ and also collaborated with K-Pop girl group BlackPink on hit track ‘Ice Cream’. Selena Gomez last featured on DJ Snake’s 2018 hit single ‘Taki Taki’, with Cardi B and Ozuna.
