TIME Magazine's Entertainer of the Year 2020 : BTS

BTS, the ‘seven little boys’ from South Korea were announced on Thursday as the winner of this year’s title ‘Entertainer of the Year.’ And this isn’t the first time they’ve received such a heavy title, nor the first time they’ve managed to land a cover shot of some pretty amazing magazines.

TIME Magazine's Entertainer of the Year 2020 : BTS

“BTS isn’t just the biggest KPOP act on the charts. They’ve become the biggest band in the world—full stop.” TIME wrote.

In a year full of setbacks and canceled tours, while everyone couldn’t figure out what to do, BTS wrote song after song to show their fans they care in the way they can, with heartwarming messages and appreciation. they broke every type of record there is, even debuting #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with three(!) songs, one of which is still in the top 10 even after 3 months and the other being a Korean song with almost no radio play or support from the American labels. Their latest album, “BE”, and its title track “LIFE GOES ON” is said to be their most calming and BTS-que album yet.

RM, the leader of the group said during the interview, “We’re not sure if we’ve actually earned respect. But one thing is for sure is that people feel like, OK, this is not just some kind of a syndrome, a phenomenon. These little boys from Korea are doing this.”

BTS themselves have acknowledged that they never even imagined reaching where they are now, with more than a hundred awards, several critically acclaimed albums, and over 100 Million devoted fans. The boys also added that all this can be scary sometimes, but they keep trying to become better artists that can provide comfort, relief, and positive energy to people. Whether they do that through their music or by showing support for their fans and real-world issues, it’s all appreciated by everyone who learns of it.

The power that BTS holds is shocking. There have been several cases of ARMYS (their fans) selling out things that the boys are seen using or endorsing, everything from actual cars and massage chairs to the pens the boys use. Even though they’ve received the highest cultural merit from the President of Korea himself, and made a name for themselves worldwide, you wouldn’t be able to find people as humble as them..

Every time we think BTS has reached its peak, they manage to go even higher. So I think it’s safe to say that RM is right about them being more than a short-lived act. BTS is here to stay.
