Exactly a decade after releasing his debut mixtape House of Balloons, The Weeknd has reissued the project in its “original incarnation.”
“On Sunday for its 10 year anniversary I’m releasing House of Balloons on all streaming platforms for the first time in its original incarnation,” he wrote on Twitter. “With the original mixes and samples.” The songs from the project were only available on streaming services through 2012’s Trilogy, a release that compiled newly mixed and remastered versions of his first three mixtapes.
The House of Balloons reissue features original mixes and samples that did not make the final cut on the original mixtape. This will also be the first time the mixtape is available on all streaming sites.
House of Balloons features a number of the Weeknd’s hits including “Wicked Games,” “Loft Music,” “HighFor This”, and more.
The “Blinding Lights” artist also teamed up with contemporary artist Daniel Arsham on a House of Balloons merch collection, which will drop on The Weeknd‘s online store at 3 pm ET Sunday, March 21, and will only be available for 48 hours.
Within a span of 10 years, The Weeknd has become one of the most renowned artists in the industry, with his songs breaking records left and right. Even his first ever mixtape, included his signature themes that he uses in his songs: Sex, heartbreak, drugs, and they had the same trippy vibe.
He has five Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s to his name, and recently gave a smashing performance at the super-bowl. He has also decided to boycott the most prestigious award ceremonies, the Grammys, for being corrupt; as The Weeknd was not nominated for even a single category despite having delivered a record breaking album in 2020.
This day also marks the one year anniversary of The Weeknd’s record breaking and award-winning album, ‘After Hours’.
Fan Reactions:
The Weeknd fans were pleasantly surprised upon learning that he will be releasing the original versions of his earliest hits; of the songs that ultimately launched his career.
