‘House Of The Dragon’: Who Plays Who In Game Of Thrones’ Upcoming Prequel

House of the Dragon, Game of Thrones

House of the Dragon: The prequel of one of the most legendary TV shows, Game of Thrones, is underway, and fans are excited about what it has in store for them. So far, only a teaser for the series has been released, and that teaser itself gave us the first look into what all characters are going to be there.

House of the Dragon will take us 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones took place, and will be exploring that history of the brutal Targaryen civil war that tore the realm apart. We will be introduced to a whole new set of characters, many of them Targaryens.

Who plays who in House of the Dragon

Princess Rhaenyra and Prince Daemon

Emma D’arcy and Matt Smith will be playing the roles of Princess Rhaenyra and Prince Daemon respectively, who, as we can tell by the name, are the ancestors of Daenerys and one of the first Targaryens. Prince Daemon is the younger brother of the ruler of Westros, King Viserys I, while Princess Rahenerya is the daughter of said King. Prince Daemon is next in line to be the ruler of Westros due to Rahenerya being a woman, but we know that the transition of power is never going to be as simple as that. Both of these characters also happen to be dragon riders, and Princess Rhaenrya is described to be of pure valerian blood.

Milly Alcock will be playing the younger version of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.

Lord Corlys Velaryon

Steve Toussaint’s character, Lord Corlys Velaryon, also known as the Sea Snake, is basically the most feared sailor in all of Westeros and is also known for being the most famed nautical adventurer in the history of Westros. Along with being the Lord of House Velaryon, Corlys is also married to Rhaenys Targaryen, Daemon’s sister and Rahenerya’s aunt. He built his house into a powerful seat, which is even richer than the Lannister’s, and also claims the largest navy in the world.

Alicent and Otto Hightower

Otto Hightower, played by Rhys Ifan, is the Hand of the King and is said to be a royal servant to both his King and the realm. Alicent Hightower, played by Olivia Cooke, is Otto’s daughter. She was raised in the red keep, and now finds herself in the King’s innermost circle.

As for House Hightower, they remain a powerful house in Game of Thrones and are most commonly known as bannermen for House Tyrell. In fact, the two families are even joined by marriage in the series, as Mace Tyrell’s wife Alerie is a daughter of House Hightower.

Emily Carey will be playing the younger version of Alicent Hightower.

Mysaria, aka, Lady Mysery

Mysaria

Played by Sonoya Mizuno, Mysaria is a foreign-born slave who rises to become Daemon’s most trusted ally.

King Viserys I

Played by Paddy Considine, King Viserys I is the ruler of Westros, who succeeded the old King Jaehaerys I Targaryen. If Game of Thrones has taught us anything, it is that a ruler in Westros doesn’t rule for very long, given the existence of numerous of power-hungry usurpers. We can only assume that King Visery’s rule over Westros is going to very short lived in the series.

When will House of the Dragon be released?

According to HBO, the House of the Dragon’s ten episodes will debut sometime in 2022. Considering filming only began this past spring, it seems most likely that we’ll see a release date in the second half of 2022
